HOUSE RULES FOR ALL FORUMS

1. ON-TOPIC:

The Fleet 27 Forum is dedicated to discussions about owning and racing Etchells class sailboats on Casco Bay. Participants in this forum are friendly, are tolerant of other’s views, are always willing to help new sailors, are honest, and they never, ever lie. They’re probably also thrifty and loyal. This forum is — or should be — a safe place to ask and ponder questions and philosophies as they relate to all things “Etchells.”

2. OFF-TOPIC:

Posts that are not related in some way to Etchells sailboat ownership or racing are not allowed and will be deleted from the list. Examples might include discussions of tax policies, computers or astrophysics. Members who persist in making off-topic posts may have their posting privileges suspended at the election of the moderators.

Despite the preceding paragraph, some “off-topic” subjects are sufficiently related to the focus of the list, or sufficiently in the spirit of the list, to qualify for posting. For instance, a cruising sailor might post a question about spinnakers, or someone might post about boat trailer brakes, or waterproof cameras that are useful onboard. There should be a genuine connection between the subject of a post, and the subject and spirit of the Forum. Please announce the subject of your post clearly in the subject line.

3. OFFENSIVE AND ABUSIVE POSTS:

Offensive or abusive posts will not be tolerated, and will result in termination of membership without warning. Offensive or abusive emails sent privately to other list members will have the same result, if they become known to the Forum moderators. Vigorous debate can and sometimes does occur, but at all times it is expected that participants shall remain friendly and tolerant of others’ views.

4. FOR SALE AND FOR TRADE POSTS:

For sale and for trade posts are allowed provided the following criteria are met:

a) Items offered for sale must be on-topic.

b) Subject lines should start with FS:, FT: or FS/FT: as appropriate.

c) Specific prices must be clearly stated.

d) The post must direct responders to follow-up off list.

e) “What’s this item worth” posts are considered to in fact be for-sale fishing expeditions, and are, accordingly, not allowed.

f) Members are discouraged from using the list solely for sales. Members who post items for sale should also contribute to list discussions.

5. ANONYMITY IS DISCOURAGED:

We are a friendly group with a high degree of trust among members. We request that you sign your posts with your real name and your location.

7. THE FINE PRINT:

By joining and/or participating in the Etchells Fleet 27 Forum, each applicant and user affirmatively waives any and all claims, causes of action, and/or rights of action which may arise at any point or anytime with respect to any alleged libel, slander, defamation, false light claim or any other related personal tort claim. This waiver shall inure to the benefit of all Forum participants, the Forum Moderators, and any assigns, heirs, or representatives. Each user assumes his or her own risk by participating in the Etchells Fleet 27 Forum. At the sole discretion of the Forum moderators, participants engaging in abusive or tortuous behavior will be permanently removed.

Any and all claims or suits arising out of use, in any manner, of the Etchells Fleet 27 Forum shall be subject to mandatory arbitration pursuant to the rules of the American Arbitration Association. Such arbitration shall take place in Portland, Maine and shall be governed by the law of the state of Maine regardless of any conflicting choice of law provision.
