Get caught barging by #470, circle, start, avoid “I”flaggers, either follow fleet or go right toward pressure or current with Butter to windward. Pressure wins out, header as we approach layline. Tack, ease off 10 degrees as Butter crosses ahead and goes another three boatlength, then we get back on course, get lifted. Watching mark boat and hearing RC chatter, we see offset removed, do a quick gybe after rounding just ahead of Butter and stay high to keep speed and defend against Butter the whole leg as we reach to the finish. Watching for the pressure before and after the start and thinking the Fleet was slowing going left was the call for the night. Great crew work keeping sails full, gybing at W mark, and keeping watch on Butter did the trick that night.
At the weather mark, did you gybe then set, or vice-versa? Was your spinnaker gear set up for a port tack set?
