Shouldn’t we consider installing a depth sounder in the mark boat? Last night the R/C directed the mark boat to go as close to the Falmouth shore as possible yet still have adequate depth, since the R/C was trying to get a sufficiently long weather leg. The directions could have been more definitive if the R/C was able to tell the mark boat to go to a specific depth of water.

Also, setting marks in Casco Bay with varying depths would be made easier if the mark boat knew what the depth was before selecting the correct length of anchor rode.

A depth sounder would help remove the water depth guess work from mark setting.

A suitable depth sounder can be had for around $100. Hummingbird Depth Sounder

          Hi Matt

a handheld GPS would be a better solution that way we would be using the chart to set depth and have accurate distance.
