Yesterday was novel and not in a Corona sort of way. Fleet 27 started its 2020 season in style. For this season’s first keel boat racing on Casco Bay, we had sunshine, warmth, some exposed skin, sunscreen, and little worries about PFD usage. Five boats made it to the starting area ably run by Theo Corson along with Karen, Sarah, and Jay on the RC vessel Red.

Casco Bay served up light winds for the evening of July 31, which allowed two races to be completed in 6-10 kts from SSE. Sixteen boats competed, tied for the largest number of boats to date in 2018. The Race Committee apparently cancelled Tuesday Evening Races for the third straight week. “Apparently cancelled” because the R/C made neither visual nor audible signals, nor amplifying VHF communications to alert the common folk to the races being cancelled.
