Casco Bay served up light winds for the evening of July 31, which allowed two races to be completed in 6-10 kts from SSE. Sixteen boats competed, tied for the largest number of boats to date in 2018. The fleet sailed a course W1 for the first race, and a W2 for the second race. The race committee was provided by Wiki Wiki.
Schadenfreude won the first race, with More Cowbell and Medusa following. Vixen horizoned the fleet in the longer second race by banging the right hand corner of the course on the first beat. Vixen also won overall for the evening and won most improved since the previous race evening. Medusa, on the strength of a pair of thirds, moves up to lead the Fall Series standings.
While Hustler remains firmly entrenched at the top of the overall season points tally, her point lead shrunk a little. The overall season scores remain very close at the top and a few boats near the top of the leader board swapped positions this week. The next completed race will bring another discard into the scoring picture, which may further scramble the leaderboard.
A summary of the season results are here. Website members may view more of the gory details on the race results page.
Note: The boat (in)formerly known as Hound (#706), is correctly called Greyhound. John told me he is keeping the old name on the new boat. Ex-Greyhound (#315) will be known simply as 315, until it gets sold.
Note: I have re-scored #315 (ex-Greyhound) as #75 tonight (8/21), since Ralph was flying his Voodoo mainsail on 315. Also, I rescored #532 as #75 for the previous race on 8/7, as Ralph was flying his #75 mainsail on Fearless that night. We have a form for switching sail numbers, but not for switching hulls, and Ralph was using his sail number each night. OK, the bow numbers don’t match up, but we have no written rule on that.
Important credit and kudos to Fearless (Morgan and Alex) for contributing beer to the 8/21 post-race gathering. Many hands make light work.
