Details for Fleet 27 Launch @PYS

This is a message provides the current, most up to date launch info for Saturday.

Please read.

Myles, in his message below, provides plenty of great info you should know to have a safe and enjoyable launch. Please read and comply, don’t ask Myles for any special favors. Thank the folks at PYS for welcoming us again this year.

Jay Corson will have M/V Red available to tow Saturday morning.  The PYC has mark boat 10 in the water but the floats went in yesterday and the PYC boats go in today, a week late due to weather conditions.  We are not sure if we can use boat 10 yet until the waterfront gets set.  Jack Zinn MAY be able to tow some boats closer to noon.  Rich Hubbell MAY have his boat in to help.  Steve Everett offered to launch his powerboat to help tow. Is there anyone else with a power boat able to tow 2-4 Etchells from PYS to PYC Saturday morning?  As we found last year, several owners never checked if their moorings were in and ready, check yours before Friday.  Most of us could not find our own moorings due to the lack of surrounding moorings, taking valuable time from the tow boats that may be asked to make two trips this year.  Have your tow lines ready once launched and have paddles in the boat for getting to the floats or moorings from the tow.

Do not expect to use the PYC facilities for several days due to their late launch.  Heather, Bill, and the PYC crew will be working to get the waterfront ready for Commissioning.  Do ot ask them for any help this week or think you will be able to use the floats or boats before Saturday.

The PYC has found a paid PRO and he may be interested in doing the same for the Etchells, discussions will begin shortly. I have offered to take him with me the first night, 5/16. I would welcome others not sailing the first few weeks to come volunteer their time to assist our RC until a permanent PRO becomes available.   Contact me for scheduling a Tuesday for you.  Many thanks from myself as well as your fleet.  Looking forward to seeing you soon.

From: Myles Everett…

What: Fleet 43 and Fleet 47 launch. Single point pick only, no travel lift service.

Where: Portland Yacht Services at 100 W Commercial Street. Boats will launch via the Terex crane over the sea wall similar to last year. Make your way left as you enter the yard. The gate code is 7035# if not already open.

When: Boats need to be onsite, mast up, backstay disconnected, lifting strap secured, and bow/stern tag lines in place by 8 AM. I have not received many RSVPs so we are not expecting a large crowd and we expect things will go quickly. No boats will be launched after 10 AM. Please plan accordingly.

Boats may arrive at the yard on Friday to get rigged/ready. Boats that choose to arrive early (before Saturday morning) must contact me for special instructions on where to go.

Cost: The yard will charge each Fleet a $150 flat rate fee for each boat. Please pay the treasurer of your fleet or me via check or cash so we can compile everything and settle with the yard with one transaction. Do not pay the yard office. Do not pay the crane operator.

Liability: As before, each boat will be asked to sign a waiver on site releasing PYS from liability for each boat’s equipment (i.e. if your lifting strap fails or was improperly rigged).

Notes: Lifting straps, gin poles, other rigging equipment, etc will not be provided. It is the responsibility of each boat to make itself ready and safe to be lifted, not the yard’s.

Please let me know directly of any questions, concerns, or special attention needed.

RSVP for this event is required by Wednesday May 9th at 8AM. Please let me know via email or call, preferred no texts.

Best regards,
Myles Everett
