Fleet 27 is looking to test a new version to RRS 18 (mark room) that Dave Perry’s committee is looking into. Here is some background.

Thank you for your interest in helping us try to simplify rule 18, Mark-Room.
Attached is a paper (<< click link to open paper) that explains the plan for testing the 2022 Test Rule 18 from May 15 – July 15, 2022, including the text of the 2022 Test Rule 18.
Note that you need to state that this test rule is in effect in the Notice of Race of any race where the 2022 Test Rule 18 will be used.
Note also that I am hosting three Zoom sessions during the test period for ALL sailors and race officials who may be using the 2022 Test Rule 18; one in mid-May (beginning of the test period), one in early June (mid-test period) and one in early July (nearing the end of the test period). Please encourage your sailors and race officials to join these sessions (there are three choices for each session in different time zones).
Finally, note that part of the test is getting feedback from the sailors and race officials using the test rule. There will be a Feedback Form online after June 1 that people can use; or people can simply send their feedback to rules@sailing.org at anytime.
After reading the attached paper, please email me with any questions you may have on organizing the testing with your sailors, fleets, classes, regattas, etc.
