Race Marks Post-Season Post-Mortem

The Fleet race tackle has been retrieved and is being cleaned prior to its winter storage. We had four repairs to marks this season – all split seams. A bit high, and most likely due to overinflation. For next season, please do not over inflate our marks, **leave them a bit soft** so heat expansion from solar radiation won’t stress the seams.

We had one anchor get cut by an overzealous mark boat crew, but thankfully the skipper let me know and provided us with a new replacement anchor, a wonderful bit of news for the repairman.

Unfortunately, today I found one of our new orange lines was cut in half and retied placing the upper end float some 35′ above the anchor and tying the cut end at the buoy.  A better plan would have been to simply clip the excess line to the snap shackle of the inflatable buoy and let it hang down, unaffecting the boats rounding.  As I inspect the tackles multiple times per year, I suspect this was done after August 29th.  If anyone would like to re-splice this for our fleet, just let me know.

Regards to all,
Fleet Boatswain’s Mate Tim
